These Boots Were Made For Walkin’, 2023 explores themes of feminine rage and revenge. Heavily inspired by the backstory of Artemesia Gentileschi’s Judith Slaying Holofernes, c. 1612-13, Avnet wanted to create a composition where the female subject was in complete control. The perspective is unusual, looking down from the point of view of the figure holding the knife, with the focus drawn to the vibrant cowboy boot pressing into the chest of the prone figure. The use of color contrasts the harsh reality of the scene—especially the bright purple and magenta hues against the flesh tones and the blood.
